About the event

Gua Sha Assisted Massage brings the tradition of Gua Sha into the massage session. Join me to learn how to immediately increase your effectiveness while decreasing your effort in every session. Gua means to scrape and Sha is the redness or rash that is created. In the massage session the redness does occur but typically with minimal to no bruising. So, don't let Google images concern you, rarely are clients bruised when the tool is applied as an adjunct to massage therapy. Rather, what you will find is how much your effectiveness has increased. Therapists and their clients are delighted with the simplicity of adding this valuable tool immediately into their practice and improving outcomes.  Clients have nicknamed the tool the, "magic eraser" because of how quickly the effect of adhesions are reduced.

In this course you will learn the historical use and application of Gua Sha and how that relates to it's application in a massage therapy session. You will understand how to correctly hold the tool using minimal effort and good body mechanics while employing the tool within a session. Students will identify the massage techniques used in the application of Gua Sha. Students will understand how to incorporate Gua Sha safely and effectively into any massage session. In addition, by the end of the workshop students will know ways to utilize Gua Sha in self-care.

Please bring your preferred medium, a full set of sheets, bolster and a table (with face cradle) along with any Gua Sha tool you may have purchased and a pen or pencil for taking notes.  I will have one type of Gua Sha tool available for purchase for only $5 made of buffalo horn.  Please bring cash and they are available on a first come/first served basis before the workshop and on breaks.  Please don't feel obligated to bring any tools or even to purchase one from me, you are welcome to borrow one of mine to use during the workshop.  I bring a wide variety of shapes and compositions to try in class for your own understanding and practice with the various shapes, sizes and compositions.  Either way, sign up for this invaluable workshop and practice happier today.

Workshop location: Himalayan Yoga & Meditation Center in Palatine, IL directly across the street from the Palatine Metra station.  The workshop location offers a large open studio space for us to practice.  The Center also has plenty of parking space available in a private parking lot next to the building.  The studio is on the second floor and stairs are required.
