Japa is an ancient practice found in Hindu, Buddhist, and even Christian traditions. It involves meditating on a special, vibrational sound or word called a mantra. The repetitive nature of this practice allows the practitioner to steady the mind (thereby reducing stress and anxiety) and access deeper spiritual energy.

Join Anil to gain understanding of the importance of Japa in your life, the full scope of Japa benefits, and several ways to properly practice this meditation. You will learn recitation of Guru prayer, Gayatri, and Mrityunjaya mantras, as well as the technique to "speeding up" long mantras.

If you have a mala (rosary), please bring it with you.

“Japa is mental recitation, or better still, the remembrance of a mantra which gradually awakens energy vibrations in the mind field.” – Swami Veda Bharati

Patanjali introduced Ashtanga Yoga in his seminal text Yoga Sutra's on philosophy and practice of meditation leading to enlightenment.  In this workshop continuing with the explanation of the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga, Pandit Dabral will discuss the subtleties of practicing Dharana (Concentration) and Dhyana (Meditation).  Pandit-ji will describe what is Dharana, and how it's perfection leads to cultivation of Dhyana.  Practice and stabilization of Dhyana leads to states of Samadhi.

SVB's lecture at Banyantree 14.jpg

Join Anil Saigal and fellow aspirants in a discussion of the leading scriptures of yoga philosophy and spirituality.

Each session ends with a brief guided meditation.

We will continue reading Swami Veda Bharati's (unpublished) commentary on Chapter 1 titled Samadhi Pada (On Non-Cognitive Absorption).  Patanjali's Yoga Sutras is THE undisputed guide to yoga philosophy and practices for attaining enlightenment, and is a "must-read" for all serious meditators.  We will continue with sutra I-9 onwards.

Swami Veda's commentary on Yoga Sutras is a meta-commentary, as it amalgamates the explanations and meaning ascribed to each verse by the most significant commentators including those by sage Vyasa.  Swami Veda's commentary is considered to be the most significant commentary of this century.  Two of the four chapters (Chapters 1 and 2) have been published as of now, of which our current publication is a re-write of the first chapter.

Two of the few commentaries recommended by Swami Veda are:

1) "Yoga Philosophy of Patanjali with Bhasvati" by Swami Hariharananda Aranya,

2) "Yogasutra of Patanjali with the Commentary of Vyasa" by Bangali Baba

The attendance in the Scriptural Study groups is FREE.  For those enrolled in an HYMC Teacher Training program, FULL ATTENDANCE earns 1.5 credit hours toward their program.

Introduction to Marma Training
June 24th -25th 11:00a-5:00p
with Hemaveda Ayurveda

Marma chikitsa is a 5,000 years old system of Ayurveda. Marmani are extremely important energy points which help in the subtle balance of healthy mind body and soul. This therapy is an ancient Indian practice that focuses on the manipulation of subtle energy (prana) present in the body, for the purpose of supporting the healing process. The understanding and dependability on the 107 marma points helps to work on the flow of Prana through the subtle bodies and mind.

Stimulation of Marma points help not only in the balance of one’s body and mind but also it helps the function of the endocrine system, nervous system to gently detox and rejuvenate. Learning of the Marma chikitsa(treatment) will create an experience to a powerful transformation at the mental, emotional as well as physical level to the higher mind and the subconscious.

Our principal instructor, Ayurveda doctor Vaidya Swati Mhaske has years of experience in Marma chikitsa training under the guidance of her teachers in India and has successfully completed the Marma therapy training from North India.
